Andrea Valleri: AXIOMA
Past exhibition
Overview
We are pleased to announce the exhibition of the Venetian artist Andrea Valleri, patronized by the Embassy of Greece in Rome, by the General Directorate of Museums of the Ministry of Culture, the Region of Calabria, the Municipality of Crotone, and by the Jobel Consortium of Social Cooperatives, which will open its doors on 13 July 2024 at the Capo Colonna National Archaeological Museum in Crotone.
Valleri's works explore the essence of existence by drawing inspiration from classical literature and the visual arts and ancient figures such as Homer and Hesiod, evolving through the Hellenistic and Roman periods. The artist believes that archaeology fosters dialogue between historical thought and contemporary art. His works, therefore, provide a context for the interaction between ancient and modern creativity.
"AXIOMA", from which the Italian word is axiom or postulate, etymologically refers to that which has dignity, is worthy of being considered in its value, builds a bidirectional bridge between scientific and humanistic culture, and leads the visitor to reconnect with the unitary historical matrix from which differences originate.
Andrea Valleri has chosen Crotone - and specifically the National Archaeological Museum of Capo Colonna - to continue the path undertaken with his previous exhibitions, in 2022 and 2023, on the island of Samos in Greece, the island where Pythagoras was born and initially lived. Crotone represents the destination where Pythagoras taught and founded his school until he ended his life in nearby Metapontum. It is a clear reminder of Pythagoreanism but, simultaneously, of the whole tradition connected to the figures of Parmenides and Plato, who still represent the reminder of the foundation of the intelligible world.
