Sophia Vari: Venice
Past exhibition
Overview
The artist's own declared intention is to "To permeate figures and colours, their very geometry, with human qualities, within a spatial context"
This exhibition now marks Sophia Vari's full artistic maturity, offering works that demonstrate versatility and eclecticism, ranging from oil to mixed media, from collage to bronze sculpture. A complete artist, therefore, who succeeds in an absolutely perfect way in condensing and synthesising in her works elements taken from Maya, Egyptian and Olmec sculpture, with her ingenuous knowledge of the peculiar forms of Ancient Greece, and those of the much-loved Baroque era. All revisited through a wholly personal perspective that is expressed in balanced compositions where two-colour plays a predominant role and there are undeniable references to the Dada movement and formal solutions taken from the works of Mirò. Although her works are abstract, the anthropomorphic figure is never completely denied, in fact it remains subtended by essential lines that suggest movement and sensuality. The artist's own declared intention is to: "To permeate figures and colours, their very geometry, with human qualities, within a spatial context".
