Giuseppe Cesetti | Virgilio Guidi: Poets, dreamers and great painters
Past exhibition
Overview
The Contini Art Gallery presents an exhibition dedicated to two masters of 20th-century Italian painting, Giuseppe Cesetti and Virgilio Guidi, both exponents of European Magic Realism. Cesetti, from Tuscania, is influenced by the Maremma and his experience in Paris, with works recognizable for their symbolic and ritual repetition. Guidi, a painter, poet and essayist, devoted himself completely to painting after abandoning technical studies, influenced by past and contemporary artists. He exhibited at the Venice Biennale and participated in Lucio Fontana's spatial movement. Both focused on light and space in their artistic production. Cesetti died in 1990 in Tuscania, while Guidi died in 1984 in Venice during an exhibition of his last paintings.
