Sophia Vari: Monumental Sculptures in Monte Carlo

18 June - 14 September 2008
Overview

To allow the monumentality of forms and structure (composition) to take possession of the space, to gain mastery over the environment-this is my true intent.

Sophia Vari

The exhibition of 15 monumental sculptures by Sophia Vari, an internationally renowned Greek artist, is held in Monte-Carlo under the patronage of the Sovereign Prince. The works have been exhibited in several prestigious cities around the world, representing Greek culture at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The polychrome bronze sculptures express strength and harmony, bringing monumentality closer to the public through perfect proportions and skillful use of color. While abstract, they evoke human or animal forms and feature recognizable geometric shapes. Vari believes that monumentality does not depend on the size of the works and that outdoor sculpture enriches people's lives. The exhibition will be accompanied by a bilingual catalog with a foreword by Christine Orban.
